Papua New Guinea tribe meets white man for the first time

YMFY came across this amazing video taken in 1976 of a tribe called Toulambis in Papua New Guinea encountering white man for the first time. The curiosity captured on video by both sides is simply amazing.

At around 4:45, you can see the tribesmen start to rub the skin of the white man to see if he has body paint on him. I don’t know if this is accurate, but I get the sense that the tribesmen are thinking “Wow, he really is that color!”.

Everything about this video is incredible — from the lighting of the match to the showcasing of the mirror, to the demonstration of the power of a sharp knife. It’s all so remarkable to see an entire society be introduced to these things all at the same time.

Ahh, and wow, look at them enjoying that rice! Everything about this video just brings a smile to my face! :)
