I don’t know why I did this, but I just finished watching what is without a doubt in my mind the scariest film I’ve seen in recent memory. And I did it by myself, in the darkness of my room (again, why, I do not know).
The movie I am talking about is called The Tunnel (I’ve posted a trailer of it before). It’s a documentary-type film about the abandoned water reservoir tunnels beneath Sydney and the horrific events that occurred there as a television news crew did investigative work to find out why the government stopped a project to re-use the tunnels for water.
The film is truly horrifying in a way I can’t even describe. I don’t know if I’ll ever watch it again, but I do know I’ll definitely recommend it to others who want to be in for a scary ride.
Story and film aside, what’s unique about this movie is the way it was distributed. Up until recently, the production crew literally gave the movie away by offering it online as a free torrent — that’s how I got my copy (it just took me a while to finally sit down and watch it). You can still find unofficial torrents online but if you want it legally now you have to buy it on DVD or for the iPad. It’s worth whatever price it’s selling for. Trust me.
It’s still available for legal download… check out all the viewing selections at http://www.thetunnelmovie.net/seeit
