I just watched this video posted at Consumerist about how the advancements in workplace reforms here in the US have meant reverse conditions in some parts of the world where industries have moved to keep prices low. In the video above, you see footage of a fire in Bangladesh that was very similar to the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire which killed over 100 people and ignited workers rights reform in the US. But instead of reform, the people in Bangladesh were met with harsh beatings and only a few thousand dollars in compensation for the loss of a life.
The video goes on to encourage viewers to have some sort of effect on the practices of these major corporations doing their manufacturing business in other countries by urging them to sign a petition to implement stricter trade laws where the US refuses to accept garments made in conditions similar to the Triangle Shirtwaist fire.
