Chris “Freedom” Pape revisits the Freedom Tunnel

A New York Times photographer met up with Chris Pape, better known by his graffiti name “Freedom”, and revisited the Amtrak tunnels underneath Riverside Park and Manhattan’s West Side where he painted murals in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. [via]

Some of Freedom’s murals ended up lasting much longer than he ever imagined (several decades at least) and he admits that seeing them buffed over now makes him a bit emotional. The last photo posted here makes me sad.
