This is scary if the uploader is to be believed. According to her, National Elevators (not sure which one, but a company by that name at least) deploys elevators with a mechanical glitch where if you call the elevator UP, and stand in the doorway until you hear the “nudge sound”, and then get in and push a floor going down instead, the elevator will start going up, then realize that you wanted to go down, and freefall about 5 feet. Yikes, has anybody been able to replicate this?

It’s essentially impossible for any modern, code-complying elevator to fall more than about six inches. If the elevator exceeds its maximum speed, the governor automatically kicks in and activates the brakes…that takes about six inches’ worth of free fall. The governor is a purely mechanical system that can’t be affected by electronic glitches such as those seen here.
Hmmm interesting. Maybe there’s more to this issue than is seen in the video…
is there another vid of this? this one’s been removed from YouTube

What Term Of Service did this video violate? Showing how badly a company’s elevators fail? I didn’t realize calling out corporations was a TOS violation.
@Ryan: I was wondering the same thing…
Odd that it was removed, i guess the company asked for it to be removed for whatever reason.
