I don’t know how I managed to miss this on YouTube, but somebody has gone ahead and translated a German documentary about Kowloon Walled City into English (with subtitles). The documentary gives a super-rare glimpse into the once-forbidden city in Hong Kong where gangs ruled, drugs were rampant, and laws and regulations were more or less non-existent. By far this is the most complete look at Kowloon Walled City I have ever seen on video.
I should really show my dad this and see if he can pick out any parts he remembers. I mean, after all, he did live there.
I’ve posted all 4 parts of the documentary here. Watch it!

Having been a British police inspector in the Royal Hong Kong Police and having worked in the Walled City are in ’1975/76 I’d say this documentary is 90-95% accurate. I’d say it was filmed after 1979 (the arial shots show that the squatter shacks South of the city are gone). The inaccuracies are bsically down to dramatisation but otherwise it’s excellent and brought back a host of memories. Thank you for posting it!
