Here’s another weird story coming out of Japan. VICE reports on a trend in Japan right now with cafes opening to customers with the intent of bringing them in to hang out with the hoard of cats present in the establishment. That’s right, for some in Japan, going to cafes now means you get to play with cats at the same time. The popularity of these “cat cafes” is mostly attributed to the fact that Japanese apartments don’t allow pets and so the only way many of these people can get to interact with a pet of their own is to be a regular at a nearby cat cafe. What’s even more surprising to me is that people are willingly paying the premium to have access to these cats. I need to go to Japan to see this bucking trend for myself. It just sounds so weird.
