In multiple locations spanning several miles off the coast of Florida, a 1970s project meant to revive marine life by dumping tires into the ocean has largely become a disaster. Huge amounts of used and old tires were expected to bring in marine species to create a reef-like habitat similar to the ones spurred on by the dumping of old Subway cars into the ocean. But instead of bringing new life, the tires have actually just killed it and after several decades, the failed revitalization project is now being cleaned up by several agencies. The videos and photos are quite something.
