Jonathan Minard directed this video about The Internet Archive and its ambitious task of digitally recording every single book, media file, and website ever put online. I’ve used The Internet Archive more times than I can remember and every time I use it my mind wanders into thinking about what this place would look like as a physical space. Well, that’s answered here. It turns out that The Internet Archive spans several different buildings including an old church. It’s mission of not only digitizing the 100 million or so books in existence but also storing the physical copies in a safe manner is one that seems almost impossible, yet they are well on their way to doing it.
It’s a remarkable feat of coordination and determination in an effort to make knowledge truly universal. I like this a lot!
