If I remember correctly, the Knog Oi bicycle bell was first funded on Kickstarter, but now it looks like you can buy one direct from Knog. This is definitely one of the prettiest bike bells on the market. Wish Knog had more outlets in the US though so I could pick this up in person and bypass shipping.
Museum of the City of New York: New York At Its Core
This November, the Museum of the City of New York (one of my favs!) is opening a new exhibit called New York At Its Core. The exhibit is a very comprehensive look at the many ways New York City transformed from a little Dutch trading village into one of the biggest and greatest cities in the world.
The video here is one of the trailers the Museum of the City of New York has put online -- this one tells the story of the Lower East Side with some great anecdotes from the Russ family (of Russ & Daughters fame). Check it out. The exhibit opens November 18th!
Your Vacation Will Feel Longer If You Donβt Over-Plan It - Science of Us →
One truly bad thing about vacations: Eventually, they end. Recently, Quartz writer Jenni Avins interviewed psychologist and time-perception expert Marc Wittmann about this unfortunate truth, and Wittmann provided some useful advice for slowing down the precious few hours you have away from work. For one, he advises, rein in your Type A tendencies, and resist the urge to over-plan your travels.
Weirdcore visuals and animations
Yesterday I posted M.I.A.'s music video for "XXXO" and did a little digging and it turns out that some of those visuals were not created by MIA herself but by somebody by the name of weirdcore. Not surprisingly, Weirdcore also did the visuals for Santigold's latest album (see below). I can only describe this visual style as early internet-era crudeness. I like it though and I want to see more.
Slow To Show: Lowriding in Odessa, Texas
Here's a nice op-doc from The New York Times about a small group of lowriders based in Odessa, Texas. Nothing but some good eye-candy, that's all.
How a vinyl record is made
Watching the video above reminds me of that time back in 2014 when I took advantage of Open House New York's tour of Brooklynphono (one of the few remaining vinyl record makers on the East Coast).
If you missed that post back on the old Doobybrain, I put the photos below.Enjoy!
