The ADC has a gallery on 29th Street that I pass by often. Emanating from this space is a usual crowd of highly creative people with incredible work, all worthy of some recognition and all worthy of their work being shown and presented there. What puzzles me about the new Art Directors Club logo is that this logo does not convey that same sense of creativity at all. In fact, it is probably the most boring logo redesign I’ve ever seen approved. The former ADC logo wasn’t the greatest looking I’ll admit, but it had a unique look to it that certainly made it stand out among other art galleries/clubs/organizations. The former logo had an old feel to it (despite actually being designed in 2005 by Paula Scher, according to Brand New) and that’s what I loved about it. It made me feel like I was going into a well-established organization and participating in great discussions with great artists. The new logo, composed of a tightly spaced Franklin Gothic, just cannot compete with the former logo in my opinion. It screams laziness, conformity, and a feeling of joining the David Barton Gym (as one commenter on Brand New says).
To put it simply, I think this is a huge mistake and a very unfortunate one for such a great organization. I mean, yuck, just look at that huge logo on their website.

Simon sent this over to me today and I started laughing real hard at my desk. Anti-Duckface is a blog that basically shows you why making a kissing gesture (otherwise known as a “duckface”) is almost always a bad idea. Not flattering and definitely not as sexy as you probably think.

I guess my sister knows that I work for a wedding photographer, so she sent me a link to Wedinator to make sure that I always speak up if my boss goes to photograph a wedding like any of these.

Believe it or not, this is an actual page screenshot of an actual photo on sale at iStockphoto.
The name of the image has since been changed, so if you don’t believe me, then look at the URL of the page which still shows “fuck you men” in the string. [via]

Back in May of this year, I posted about a wonderful redesign project by Dustin Curtis who took it upon himself to redesign the American Airlines website. Dustin’s reasons for doing this were to hopefully inspire American Airlines to do something about their barely usable site and to generally give them a better online presence in the midst of competition from people like JetBlue (who have a great online website).
As the story goes, Dustin was then contacted by somebody — Mr. X, as he is known — who worked at American Airlines and wanted to clear the air with some knowledge of how the design process works at AA.
Well, Mr. X volunteered that information and then AA fired him for apparently breaking a non-disclosure agreement which is unfortunate because Mr. X seemed pretty passionate about what he did at AA in his letter to Dustin.
I’m not going to go into who was right or wrong here, but I hope American Airlines gets over their red tape and thinks about what they’ve just done.

Here’s one way to celebrate Obama’s 1-year anniversary of being elected to be the President of the United States: Obama Weather (brought to you by The Weather Channel).
Obama (or Angelina, House, or Bender) will show you how you should dress given the current and future weather predictions. Give it a try here.
