Where The Wild Things Are Moishe/Carol action figure

November 3, 2009 @ 6:20 pm

Back in 2000, McFarlane Toys actually sold a true-to-the-book action figure/figurine of Moishe (or Carol) from Where The Wild Things Are. It has since been sold out and unavailable to the masses, but if I ran McFarlane Toys, I would reissue these as quickly as possible. I didn’t really like the movie, but I love Moishe/Carol and this item is spot-on.

Review: Buzz Lightyear Toy Story Collection edition

October 7, 2009 @ 1:17 am

Ever since the 1995 release of Toy Story by Disney/Pixar, various companies have tried to replicate the actual movie version of Buzz Lightyear, and each one has failed miserably. If they got the size correct, something was horribly wrong with the features (meaning, nothing worked like it did in the film). And if they got the features correct, then you can pretty much bet that the toy looked horribly disfigured (silly is a good word to describe them) or the size was just insanely miniature. So it’s with much joy that I report to you (like I have in the past a few times), that Disney finally came to their senses and is now selling a Buzz Lightyear action figure toy that is true to the film as part of their new Toy Story Collection (made by Thinkway Toys).

If you’re a regular reader of this blog, you’ll know that I’m a huge Buzz Lightyear fan and I’ve been waiting what seems like forever for a true Buzz Lightyear toy to come out so that I can be just like Andy in the film. Disney saw my enthusiasm for the new Toy Story Collection and graciously sent over a unit for me to play with. I am convinced that this is the toy that should have been made in the first place and I’m only left wondering why it took so long for Disney to get it all right.

12″ Buzz Lightyear is straight out of the movie

Here is the first hi-res image of Buzz Lightyear from the Toy Story Collection coming from Disney/Pixar this coming Fall. Buzz Lightyear is an actual-size 12″ action figure that will be selling for $35 at all toy retailers very soon. This action figure has 30 sayings programmed into its core and is highly poseable.

I wasn’t exactly all too into the remote controlled Buzz Lightyear because its motions were so jerky. I would much rather have a poseable action figure on my desk than a robot that I have to use a remote control for.

From what I’ve read, the toy above has no karate-chop action, which sorta sucks because that seems to always be the thing missing from these various Buzz Lightyear toys. I mean, it’s advertised in the Toy Story film, so why can’t the toy be true to the movie?

Overall however, this is the toy I want. Click on the image above to see the toy UP CLOSE.

Tyrannosaurus Rex by Papo

papo-t-rex

I’ve seen plenty of dinosaur figures but none have been nearly as detailed or as cool as the Dinosaur Collection from Papo. Most of the dinosaur figures in this collection have moving mouth parts which look amazing because each dinosaur is hand-painted to look like the real deal!

And now that I own the Tyrannosaurus Rex, it makes me really want to get the Velociraptor too! These are very fun! :)

Buzz Lightyear in movie packaging available August 3rd

The Buzz Lightyear action figure that comes in actual movie packaging which I posted about earlier now has an official sale date of 12PM on August 3rd at MattyCollector.com. It’s still not exactly movie-size at 3-3/4″, but it’s the closest movie representation of the toy out there I believe. That’s good enough for me! I just hope it doesn’t cost a fortune. I’ll cross my fingers.

Thanks for the heads up, Zach!
