Video of Alkali metals reacting to air and water

November 19, 2009 @ 8:42 am

Here are 5 of the 6 Alkali metals reacting to air and water. When reacting to air, the metals seem to simply change color, but when they touch water, each one becomes a small explosive. [via]

Inflatable mascot does a great dance

This had me laughing out loud. My favorite part is when the mascot dances to “Tubthumping” by Chumbawamba. So good, so good!

How to launch an anvil more than 100 feet into the air

October 21, 2009 @ 1:33 am

An anvil, the heavy iron object used often in Looney Tunes/ACME gags, can be seen in the video above being shot very, very high into the air by Gay Wilkinson. Gay Wilkinson is a world champion anvil shooter. I didn’t know there was even such a title that existed. [via]

Snow kite boarder gets lifted into the air

October 14, 2009 @ 1:04 am

I am never going to go up on a mountain top and snowboard while hanging on to a kite. Ever. The camera man seems pretty ecstatic about it all, but I’m pretty sure this was not that fun for the guy on the board. [via]

To celebrate Audi’s 100th anniversary, Gerry Judah created this 32-meter high sculpture (nearly 105 feet) on display at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in West Sussex, England. The sculpture features two Audi vehicles — a recently launched R8 V10 sportscar and a 1937 Auto Union Streamliner — racing into the sky on a silver polished track.

Alarm clock that shakes you out of bed

June 29, 2009 @ 11:28 am

This awesome alarm clock was one of the entries in 102.1 Edge’s World’s Biggest contest back in 2007. The alarm clock doesn’t really use any sound or loud noises, but instead it makes use of a large mounted air cylinder at the head of the bed and a valve controlled by a computer to literally shake somebody out of bed. Here’s one more video of the bed at the 102.1 Edge studios. I wonder what the chance of whiplash is…
