Is this not one of the most touching videos you’ve ever seen? [via]

Caption reads: Sgt. Joshua Engbrecht, 28, of Riverside Calif., left, and Pfc. Jack Shortridge, 21, of Long Beach Calif., of the U.S. Army’s 1st Platoon Apache Company, 2nd Battalion 87th Infantry Regiment, part of the 3rd Combat Brigade 10th Mountain Division based out of Ford Drum, N.Y., gave each other haircuts under the stars in Wardak Province in Afghanistan.

This is a wonderful photo! Look at those stars!

Videos of military flamethrowers

March 10, 2009 @ 10:10 pm

Now that StarCraft II is available for pre-order, I’ve been looking at what real-life firebats might be like and damn are they scary.

There are tons and tons of videos of flamethrowers in action on YouTube, but these 4 posted here should pretty much cover the extent of damage a flamethrower can do. I didn’t know they could shoot so far. I can’t imagine how scary it must be to be attacked by a military using flamethrowers. Eeks.

The real fake Barack Obama

Army Staff Sgt. Derrick Brooks, seen here wearing a “Pres.-Elect Obama” sign around his neck during rehearsals for the inauguration of the 44th President of the United States, probably isn’t even thinking about the fact that he has now become the official fake Barack Obama. I wonder if the government will continue to use him as official decoy or stand-in. Imagine having a government-appointed position and title like that!

Anyway, here’s a much larger image of Derrick Brooks from The US Army. Doesn’t really look like Barack Obama except for the skin-tone color. Whatever works, works I guess.

Military reindeer vehicle

My friend Melanie came back from Iraq after serving a long time in the US Army and showed me this funny image of a military vehicle dressed as a reindeer for Christmas. I love how the tongue is sticking out on this vehicle. Makes me laugh just looking at it!

Soldier saved by bullet-proof glass

January 26, 2008 @ 11:43 pm

This is just amazing raw footage of how bullet-proof glass is coming in very handy during war.

Here we can see a room where several soldiers are having a chat. Suddenly…POP! A bullet comes flying at them only to be stopped by the bullet-proof glass window. Certainly very scary, but man, so awesome.
