Hilton Carter (of Fresh Kill) put together this fabulous video featuring fashion sketch artist Richard Haines (who runs the blog What I Saw Today) working and talking about his illustrations for 3sixteen’s Fall 2009 line.

If you remember, I posted a few photos of a recent project I was happy to be a part of which involved the folks at 3sixteen and lots of poster prints of Richard Haines’ artwork.

Here’s a couple of quick links to where the project has been covered:

People on Tumblr need to credit their sources

Laura Brunow Miner (Space Miner) has a short and well-written suggestion for people posting on Tumblr to get it together and credit your sources for photos and quotes.

I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve found something very interesting on Tumblr only to have to jump through hoops just to find out who created the original artwork (photograph, image, or quote). It’s very annoying not just from a reader’s point of view but from an artist’s point of view as well because people’s work are often just taken out of context and posted without any recognition of the original artist.

I consider it common courtesy to link back to either the artist’s website or the page from where the artist originally posted their work and at the moment, Tumblr seems to be the largest single site that is guilty of doing neither. It’s always a long line of reblogs and reblogs and reblogs, with no one in the middle even bothering to stop and think about where that image or peice of artwork came from.

So get it together Tumblr. Take a look at the revised post mock-up that Laura created and integrate that into the Dashboard area. Pronto!

Penguin Book Sets

November 12, 2008 @ 12:16 am

Penguin Books just announced what is probably the most exciting thing to come to book design in a very long time. They are unleashing 13 limited edition artist-designed book sets for the Christmas season. Each set is unified by a design motif that stretches across all of the covers in that set. The book covers are truly beautiful and inspirational and they bring back great artwork to great classics in literature.

Every set has its own unique price, but only 5 of the 13 sets come with an extremely limited edition poster. The quantities are limited and sales are based on a first come first serve basis, so if you’re really into these, I wouldn’t hesistate a moment longer before putting the purchase through. Seriously, these are so awesome.

Have a look at all of the 13 sets here.

I want these so bad, I just don’t have the money. :(

Adobe Photoshop CS4: As Real As It Gets

November 7, 2008 @ 10:08 am

This awesome ad for Adobe Photoshop rebuilds the Photoshop user interface as if it were a real life canvas on set. The ad was created for the Indonesian markets, so don’t expect to see this anywhere State-side. However, if you’re content on seeing how the ad was made, you can do so at this Flickr photoset. Neat, eh? [via]
