Acid attacks against women (video news report)

Here’s the video that goes along with the article from the New York Times about acid attacks against women in some Asian countries.

I said originally that the photo does a lot to further the cause of the organization trying to help these women, but if you weren’t convinced, then this video should do the job of letting you know just how serious this is.

Terrorism against women largely unaccounted for

Nicholas D. Kristof has written about the very depressing story of a woman who has been disfigured due to acid being flung into her face. This act of terrorism against women is not too uncommon in parts of Asia where women hold a lesser place in society. What’s even more frightening is that buying this type of acid is a relatively easy thing to do because governments in these countries do almost nothing to regulate the sales of such substances, nor do the governments prosecute the men who commit such acts.

The image above is definitely a powerful force in helping these women get the help they need. Were it not for images like this, I really believe that people would have no clear perception of what sort of danger this act of terrorism does to women.
