Rihanna speaks to Diane Sawyer about physical abuse

November 5, 2009 @ 9:32 pm

This morning, Good Morning America (ABC) aired a special exclusive interview with Rihanna about her relationship with Chris Brown and the physical abuse she suffered while dating him. This morning’s segment was a mere 5 minutes but it reveals a lot already about Rihanna’s thought patterns and how she didn’t even realize that she was in a destructive relationship until it was too late. The full episode will air tomorrow night on 20/20 but for now, you can see a sneak peek of it in the video above. [via]

PS: I think this is the first time I’ve ever heard Rihanna speak. I’ve known her music and her singing voice for so long that it’s a bit weird to hear her just speaking normally. But good for her for getting this message out. Tune in to 20/20 tomorrow to see the entire interview with Diane Sawyer.

Beating a pedestrian with a U-lock

July 21, 2009 @ 5:48 pm

As Prolly says, this is very unnecessary. I mean, even if the pedestrian was wrong in harassing you on your bike, you don’t go beating him with your friggin’ U-lock. You’re on a bike. Just ride away. Shame on you, cyclist. I hope somebody finds you and turns you in.

Sure, but still not gonna make a comeback after this. No way.

Thanks Jared!

John Mayer on Michael Jackson’s legacy

In Time Magazine’s special commemorative issue on Michael Jackson, they interviewed John Mayer on the topic of Michael Jackson and this particular paragraph struck me as sincere and true:

Michael Jackson proves, in a really sort of perverse way, that maybe we’re not as offended by behavior as we are entranced by music. And think about that. Think about what level of quality you must have to attain to have somebody say, “I know that you’re accused of having molested children, but I can’t hate you for that as much as I love you for your music.” I’m not saying that’s right or wrong; I’m saying that it’s fascinating. That somebody could be that great. That somebody could have that much of a marriage with your emotions just through music.

Despite all of the horrible things said about Michael Jackson, the fact remains that he made great music that transcends any doubt about his character. It’s this characteristic that made Michael continue to succeed despite harsh criticism.

In this day and age, I can only compare him to Chris Brown whose career is scarred forever because of his altercation with Rihanna. You don’t see Chris Brown bouncing back as popular do you? No, no you don’t, and that’s because he’s no Michael Jackson. Not even close.

Oprah on Chris Brown: “He will hit you again!”

March 11, 2009 @ 8:03 pm

There’s been a lot of response from fellow celebrities lately on the whole Chris Brown and Rihanna beating incident, and so far, most of the responses have either been apathetic to the situation or completely illogical (meaning, It’s ok. We can look past the beating he gave).

With recent reports of the celebrity couple getting back together and even recording a duet together, it seemed as if Rihanna had no good advice from anybody. But now, Oprah, one of the most prominent and powerful talk show personalities on television has given Rihanna a stern warning against her recent actions, saying:

“And also, ‘Love doesn’t hurt’. I’ve been saying this to women for years – love doesn’t hurt. And if a man hits you once, he will hit you again. He will hit you again. I don’t care what his plea is, he will hit you again.”

I couldn’t agree more. I’d be very surprised if this didn’t have some sort of widespread effect on the whole Chris Brown/Rihanna situation.
