New Google Maps Street View imagery in Manhattan

October 10, 2009 @ 10:47 pm

I don’t remember reading an official post about it from Google, so who knows how long this new Street View imagery has been up, but apparently Google has launched brand-new Street View imagery in certain locations all throughout Manhattan. The new imagery is ultra-sharp compared to what was being used previously, and now there’s actually a reason to use Google’s zooming feature while browsing in Street View mode.

The imagery is sharper and generally higher resolution and there appears to be a bigger range in accepted exposures (as you can see in the image above which shows actual clouds in the sky rather than just a blown out white space like it was previously). It looks like Google Maps covered most of the avenues in NYC first before going down the individual streets, but so far, a good portion of the island is switched over to the new imagery making the Google Maps browsing experience overall more satisfying (and creepy…maybe).

UPDATE: Oh ok, it looks like I just overlooked this Google announcement from Thursday.

The White House on Vimeo

This is great! The White house has an active dedicated channel on Vimeo featuring the President’s weekly address along with other official White House clips. I think it’s a much better alternative than YouTube’s identical channel because the video quality on Vimeo is far better than it is on YouTube. The only thing I can think of that makes YouTube’s channel worth visiting is for the closed-captioning option (in case you need it). Otherwise, Vimeo wins this distribution race hands-down.

Soulja Boy vows to be a better example for the kids

December 17, 2008 @ 5:31 pm

I don’t know what or who encouraged Soulja Boy to put out this public statement, but he did and I guess we’ll be seeing a more mature and lyrically-smart artist in the near future (hopefully). I guess you can only rap about yourself and how much money you have in only so many different ways before realizing that you can do better.
