BottleMate is perfect for bottle cap collectors

November 4, 2009 @ 12:34 am

An Australian company has developed a neat little tool called the BottleMate that easily pops the caps off of bottles while preserving their circular shape. Normally, if you have to open a bottle with a sealed cap, you end up bending it somehow with a bottle opener which really messes up the shape of the cap itself.

In any case, this is a pretty neat product I think and something that might make me start a personal collection of bottle caps just for fun. Thanks Dan for the heads up on this!

Here’s a song composed of sounds from a ketchup bottle on a table.

Brass knuckle cork screw

If the last place you thought you’d see brass knuckles was at the end of a cork screw, then the guys at Chromoly have done their job right. You see, they wanted to juxtapose the complete opposite sides of the socio-economic spectrum by fusing a glorified street weapon with an upper-class activity (wine drinking, apparently). Not entirely practical, but I doubt anybody expects it to be. Looks nice though.

Verte Non-Dripping: an oil bottle with a smart spout

The Verte Non-Dripping oil bottle from noro is absolute genius! It uses a two-lip spout to dispense your oil and prevent it from leaking down the sides of the bottle and onto your countertop or table. As you can see from the illustration above, the oil comes out from the inner lip when you pour and back into the outer lip as you stand the bottle back upright. The oil not being used drips back into the bottle for use later. It’s not only a smart design, it’s economical too as it saves crucial amounts of otherwise wasted oil over time.

Our household could use a bottle or a two-lip spout like this. Our stove area gets messy and slick because of all of the oil that drips from our olive oil bottle that we keep nearby. The Verte Non-Dripping bottle would surely save us from such a predicament. [via]

Pictured here is firefighter David Tree who has stopped to share his water bottle with an injured koala at Mirboo North after the recent wildfires that engulfed Southern Australia.

The death toll in the wake of the fire has risen near 200.

Coca-Cola: Heist

January 31, 2009 @ 12:41 am

Wieden + Kennedy Portland, together with the genius animators and directors at Psyop, have unveiled the latest Coca-Cola commercial entitled “Heist” that really takes the Coke ads to the next level of creativity.

I don’t particularly like bugs and insects, but for “Heist” I can stand to view them over and over again as they steal a bottle of Coke from a sleeping friend in order to spread good cheer to the rest of nature’s inhabitants.

The YouTube video above isn’t the greatest of quality, so I highly suggest that you head on over to Motionographer to view the commercial in the best format possible.

Just a note: This is a different ad campaign than the latest Happiness Factory spot that came out recently.
