Performa Brakeless Bike by Bertelli

October 17, 2009 @ 11:22 am

I just came across the Bertelli bicycle website and I recognized a few of the bikes from my adventures across the net. It turns out that many of the beautiful bikes I’ve been eyeing have been made by Bertelli but I wouldn’t have known that had I not come to this site because Bertelli Bikes does not brand their bicycles. In fact, I love how Bertelli jots down a list of Likes and Don’t Likes to get you up to date about what sort of bikes you should expect from the company.

Francesco, the owner of Bertelli (based in NYC), finishes, builds, and assembles each bike by hand. And the awesome thing is that he rides the bike around once it is finished to make sure that it is something he would be proud of giving away to a customer. If you’re interested in purchasing a bike from Bertelli, the starting price for a complete bike is $1500.

Building Ken Block’s Gymkhana Subaru

Wow, watch as Ken Block delivers a stock Subaru Impreza STI to Crawford Performance only to have them completely strip the car and basically build a new one from scratch. Amazing what they do to this vehicle.

This is so beautiful! I love the single light source coming from behind.

Grid-based clock screensaver

I love clock screensavers because they serve the dual function of keeping my screen from burning in and also showing me the time. The latest clock screensaver I’ve come across is this grid-based one from Build. The screensaver shows the time in hours, minutes, seconds, 10ths of a second and 100ths of a second by filling up black squares in a grid. Check out a preview of the screensaver here and if you like it, you can download it for Mac or PC. [via]

The life cycle of a blog post

On the surface, a blog is pretty simple and straightforward; a collection of posts by one or more authors that are about one (or more) related topic. In a nutshell, that’s what Doobybrain.com is. But behind the scenes, a blog is a complicated array of connections, communications, and computer-assisted intelligence that, if non-existent, would make blogging a complicated affair.

Happily, I don’t normally have to deal with the whole computer side of blogging, but it is nice to know sometimes how Doobybrain.com gets to be running so smoothly especially with the surge in readership. If you feel the same way, then you’ll want to check out WIRED’s Flash flow chart about the life cycle of a blog post.

The Flash graphic was made by London-based Build.

And since it was such a pain in the butt to get the SWF file off of WIRED’s server, I’ve done it for you so you can just right-click and save it to your computer for viewing. Download the file here.
