Robert Burley’s Photographic Proof installation

September 28, 2009 @ 7:27 pm

Photographer Robert Burley has created an amazing 66′x18′ photo piece that is currently on display on the facade of the Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA) in Montreal, Canada. [via]

The image is transferred onto the facade by a new technology developed by 3M that makes the picture an actual part of the wall. Once adhesive sections of the photo are applied to the wall, the layers go through a heating process that end up fusing the image to the wall. Pretty awesome.

This is amazing work by 172 students from UQAM (in Quebec, Canada) who shot a lipdub of the Black Eyed Peas song “I Gotta Feeling” in one take. Thanks M&W!

Man Sets TTC Bus on Fire from Tim Shore on Vimeo.

This video makes absolutely no sense to me.

But I will say that it does goes well with the taxi cab that caught fire earlier today in Manhattan. Mmmm, yes it does.

Beautiful U.S.-Canada border station sign being dismantled for security reasons

In a move I can hardly understand, the Customs and Border Protection agency is choosing to dismantle a brand-new, beautifully designed sign at the United States-Canada border because they believe it attracts “undue attention” and risks the lives of the employees working at the border station.

The sign in question, consisting of large yellow letters that spell out “UNITED STATES”, are hidden partially by the architecture of the border station which was designed by Smith-Miller & Hawkinson. The building itself will remain standing and serve as the border station between Canada and the U.S. and it is just the large signage that will be taken down. I don’t understand how this is going to make it safer for employees and less conspicuous to terrorists. I mean, could this building be anything other than a border station?

Fast Company has a few more words with the designer of the sign, Michael Bierut, and why he thinks it’s being dismantled by the government.

Hellmann’s – It’s Time For Real

Hellmann’s – It’s Time for Real from CRUSH on Vimeo.

Canadians are the focus of a new food campaign by Hellmann’s and Crush to encourage buying local foods and produce rather than buying imported foods. [via]

The campaign, entitled Eat Real, Eat Local, comes with a nifty short video that does an excellent job of explaining the negative effects of consuming imported foods in Canada when equally or better foods can be had locally. The video takes place over a table top as various statistics and CG elements pop up at the sound of the narrator’s voice.
