Using the now infamous Downfall movie scene featuring an enraged Hitler, some clever person decided to change the situation by seeing what a cheap font CD would do to the person responsible for adding subtitles to Hitler and his men.
This spectacular VIP package goes on sale tomorrow at the Mute Math online store. It’s hard to tell from the image, but it looks like you get an Armistice T-shirt, a vinyl record of the album, a CD (with a digital version…?), a concert ticket, a ticket to an exclusive Mute Math mobile listening party, and a “First In Line” pass.
I discovered the track “Victoria” by The Kooks while listening to Pandora radio and the album title from which this song originates made me curious.
With a title like War Child Presents Heroes: An Album To Benefit Children Affected By War, I was sort of wondering why I hadn’t heard more about this compilation. On top of the good cause behind the musical effort, there were big musical names on this disc like Beck, The Kooks, Hot Chip, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Franz Ferdinand, and TV On The Radio which I thought would surely have put this album in the mainstream spotlight.
And there it was, unbeknown to me for more than a month after it’s official release. But either way, I’m glad I’m getting a chance to hear it on its Myspace page and so far it sounds like a solid piece of work.
The idea behind the album is that 16 musical legends would pick 16 of today’s biggest musical acts to perform their classic hits. The result is a bit weird, a bit awesome, and all for a good cause. So if you want to give it a try, I’m sure it’ll be $9 well-spent whether you like the album or not. Get it at Amazon.com.
Want to see an awesome acoustic guitar player? Watch this video of Craig D’Andrea. He makes his solo guitar sound like a chorus of two or more. It’s quite soothing to listen to and I can imagine putting this type of stuff on in the background while studying or reading.
Craig just released a CD called Getting Used To Isolation on CandyRat Records and
Valentine’s Day is coming up and Starbucks has the exclusive release of Sweetheart, a CD full of artists’ favorite love songs sung by the artists themselves. It’s an absolutely great CD to listen to even if you aren’t with a significant other because the new versions of classic love songs are sometimes almost better than the originals.
Here’s the tracklist below (tracks in bold are personal favs):
Death Cab For Cutie – Love Song (The Cure)
Katy Perry – Black and Gold (Sam Sparro)
DeVotchKa – Hot Burrito #1 (Flying Burrito Brothers)
Department of Eagles – Love Me (Elvis)
Jessica Lea Mayfield – Words of Love (Buddy Holly)
Ben Bridwell – Your Love Is Forever (George Harrison)
Kate Tucker – I’m On Fire (Bruce Springsteen)
Rogue Wave – Maps (Yeah Yeah Yeahs)
A.C. Newman – Take On Me (a-ha)
Jem – Yellow (Coldplay)
Richard Hawley – Early Morning Rain (Gordon Lightfoot)
Daniel Martin Moore – I Hear Music (Billie Holiday)
She & Him – I Put A Spell On You (Screamin’ Jay Hawkins)
Lila Downs – My One and Only Love (Frank Sinatra)
I already bolded it, but I’ll make special note of the Jem rendition of Coldplay’s “Yellow”. In a word, it is beautiful!
Some of you know that I sometimes find Soulja Boy (or Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em) very funny in his videos posted to YouTube. I’m not particularly a fan of his music, but I do love watching some of his videos because he just seems to flaunt his relatively newfound fame like nothing else. Sure, he’s a young guy, so who can blame him when money is just pouring down like that from the sky?
Anyway, his second full album is set to be released on December 16, but it has already been leaked on the internet. The CD has 18 tracks on it, and almost every single track starts out the same, with him yelling out “Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em” in the exact same way.
In short, I think the CD is terrible. I couldn’t listen to the CD more than twice before deleting it.
