Videos of dogs greeting their owners back from war

November 11, 2009 @ 8:31 pm

In honor of the veterans this Veteran’s Day, Mental Floss has compiled a number of videos of dogs excitedly greeting their owners back from war. It is quite possibly the most wholesome and tear-jerking list of videos I’ve ever come across. Mental Floss hit gold with this entry and I’m going to go ahead and call it their best yet.

If you’re not a dog-lover, they even throw in a video of children being surprised by their parents coming home from war. Needless to say, you should stop what you’re doing now and watch these videos.

Cool4Cats sells this neat mechanical card kit that shows a line of school children being devoured by a crocodile. For only $12, it’s a pretty amusing contraption to put on your desk to show people. Check out a video of it below. [via]

They’re both doing pretty good, but the boy in the red shirt is really putting on a show!

War Child Presents Heroes Volume 1

I discovered the track “Victoria” by The Kooks while listening to Pandora radio and the album title from which this song originates made me curious.

With a title like War Child Presents Heroes: An Album To Benefit Children Affected By War, I was sort of wondering why I hadn’t heard more about this compilation. On top of the good cause behind the musical effort, there were big musical names on this disc like Beck, The Kooks, Hot Chip, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Franz Ferdinand, and TV On The Radio which I thought would surely have put this album in the mainstream spotlight.

And there it was, unbeknown to me for more than a month after it’s official release. But either way, I’m glad I’m getting a chance to hear it on its Myspace page and so far it sounds like a solid piece of work.

The idea behind the album is that 16 musical legends would pick 16 of today’s biggest musical acts to perform their classic hits. The result is a bit weird, a bit awesome, and all for a good cause. So if you want to give it a try, I’m sure it’ll be $9 well-spent whether you like the album or not. Get it at Amazon.com.

An Awesome Book! by Dallas Clayton

Dallas Clayton is the author of this wonderfully inspiring children’s book that definitely has a message for adults too! The book talks about the dreams that people have and why it is important to dream big.

Dallas has graciously allowed for the entire book to be read and viewed online and I highly recommend that all of you take some time out to do so. [via]
The story itself is great and I have a feeling that you’ll love the wild illustrations too!

And also…is that not the best title forĀ  any book you’ve ever seen?! :)

Little Chinese kids in love?

In 2007, several photos of two Asian (presumably Chinese) kids — one girl and one boy — were posted online. It depicted the two of them involved in “adult-like” activities in public. Nobody knows for sure how old the children are, but it is clear in the sequence of photos that they are involved in some sort of imitation of adult caress and intimacy.

It’s a bit confusing to figure out just exactly what is going on in these photographs (for example, there’s one image allegedly showing the boy with his hands down the girls pants) but there’s no doubt that it’s a weird situation.

I kind of wonder who the photographer was. Anyway, if you want to see the full set of really awkward images, click inside.
