50 YEARS OF MINI from one pound pictures on Vimeo.

I’ve never driven a MINI before, but after watching this video, I’m convinced that sitting behind the wheel of one might just change my life. And if it doesn’t, I’m pretty sure I’d still like it.

Review: William J. Mills & Co. Classic Duck Duffel bag

October 11, 2009 @ 12:44 am

For the past two weeks, I’ve been happily carrying my daily essentials around in a William J. Mills & Co classic duffel bag (a cobalt blue one sent over by the company after previously posting about it).

If you just look at the bag from a distance, you’ll think that there isn’t anything special about this duffel when compared to other duffel bags on the market. But behind this simple-looking bag is a company that has over 130 years of canvas sail-making history which has been passed down through 5 generations of sailmakers. And what began as a company that made bags specifically for boaters has blossomed over the years into a wonderfully straightforward and functional every day accessory for both boaters and city-dwellers alike.

With that said, you can bet that the classic duck canvas duffel from William J. Mills & Co. incorporates all of the years of quality canvas sail expertise into a bag that is water-resistant and durable enough to withstand the everyday assaults of a city like New York. Each bag is hand-stitched and checked so that it lives up to the standards that have made William J. Mills & Co. the longest continuously operating sailmaker in the USA.

The classic duffel can be worn hanging off of one shoulder, across the chest like a messenger bag, or simply carried in hand using its shorter hand-straps. If you’re not keen on the cobalt blue shown in the photos here, you can pick up the classic duffel in 12 other colors (see website for color choices and purchasing options).

Overall, I found the classic duffel to be versatile and fashionable and I can definitely see it being a part of my NYC outfit on a day to day basis. If you’re looking for a compact bag for yourself or as a gift for another, the William J. Mills & Co. classic duffel bag is a highly recommended choice.

Nixon Chronicle wrist watch

Nixon is quickly becoming one of my favorite watch makers and their Fall 2009 collection sees the introduction of the Chronicle (shown above), an analog watch with a modern yet classic look. The watch will sell for about $250-$300 which is a bit pricey for me, so I’m gonna go ahead and beg Nixon for a sample here.

Nixon, are you reading this? If you are so kind enough, I’d gladly accept a free sample of this Chronicle watch and wear it with pride. I’ll rep it, I’ll tell everyone about it (and all your other watches), and I’ll even take lots of photographs of me wearing it in all sorts of places!!!

Classic Casio Illuminator watch

I got an email this morning from ASOS saying that they were now carrying the Casio W86-1V watch with the infamous Illuminator technology. This exact model was my very first watch when I was a kid and I fondly remember it lasting a very long time and holding up to lots of use. In fact, I still have this very same watch in my closet and I’m tempted to get it out and replace the battery in order to bring life to it again. Unfortunately, this hot item is already sold out at ASOS, but you can pick it up for cheaper at Amazon.com (price: $12.95).

Timbuk2 Lived-In Classic Messenger bag

Whenever I get a new bag, I always try to wear it down as quickly as possible. I don’t like having my bags look pristine and new. I like them dirty, broken-in, and more or less old-looking. That’s why the Lived-In Classic Messenger from Timbuk2 caught my eye.

The Lived-In Messenger comes in 3 colorways — red/brown, blue/orange, and green/barley — each treated so that the colors look faded and sun-bleached. They go for $100 and are only produced in limited quantities so grab one now if you want a bag that you don’t have to kick around to break-in.
