So I just finished watching the Michael Jackson memorial via CNN.com, Hulu, and SkyNews and I have to say that SkyNews takes the cake for best presentation and video quality. They had the entire stream in HD which was pretty fantastic. You could literally see the tears in people’s eyes.
Hulu, on the other hand, sucked.

Hulu’s stream of the Michael Jackson memorial ceremony doesn’t begin until 12:55PM EST, but in the meantime, you can tune in to CNN.com’s live stream of the events happening outside the Staples Center. CNN actually has up to 4 different live video feeds active at the moment from 4 different locations outside the Staples Center and they make it pretty easy to switch back and forth between them to get the best angles.

Cute stories like this always put news writers on pun-overdrive. Har har har.

There’s been a lot of different kinds of media coming out of the inauguration ceremonies and lots of different ways to display it. Some choose to show it straight forward (picture by picture) while others take a more interactive approach.
I really think CNN did a fantastic job of incorporating Microsoft’s Photosynth technology in order to construct a 3D-ish environment of the Capitol building and its surrounding enclosures. CNN allows people to send in their own photographs to be included in this huge collection if images and once submitted, the image is sorted by Photosynth and smartly aggregated based on its content and area. The result is a multi-viewed look at the inaugural ceremonies from literally thousands of different cameras and perspectives — all at once.
This is what I love about the internet and its ability to connect people. And seriously, this is the most fun way to present an immensely large collection of photographs of very similar subjects. Check it out!

Sometime before 4PM today, a US Airways flight (#1549) made a controlled landing into New York City’s Hudson River after it was initially reported that it had hit a bird (or more). The airplane was an Airbus 320 with 148 passengers and 5-6 crew aboard, all of whom were rescued safely out from the freezing water.
You can watch live video from the scene courtesy of CNN. At the time of this post, you can see them dragging the plane along and attempting to keep it afloat.
Also, Flickr is starting to get some photos of the event (just make sure you’re sorting by date). And CNN’s Twitter is a good place to start if you really can’t be bothered to read anything more than a few sentences long (or if you’re on a mobile device).
