Japanese fan-girl meets the stars of Harry Potter

Meeting Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley)

/Film reports on the very peculiar (and very funny) Japanese fan girl interviews that came from one of Japan’s comedy television shows, Sanma Akashiya’s “Karakuri Terebi”, running a contest to pick one lucky viewer to tour the set of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.

The winner of course, is a huge fan — obsessed even — and her reactions to seeing the actual stars of the film in person are priceless. These videos are a must-see, even if you’re not a big Harry Potter fan.

Chris Cardinal and Threadless.com have teamed up to bring us an online competition called Threadcakes that aims to see who can create the best cake inspired from an actual Threadless T-shirt. The contest began on June 15th and ends on August 3rd, so if you want to enter, you still can because there are plenty of prizes to be won. Just make sure you read the rules so you don’t get disqualified.

The custom cake gallery is growing quickly and some of the cakes are pretty fantastic! See them all here (those 3D cakes are something!).

Alarm clock that shakes you out of bed

June 29, 2009 @ 11:28 am

This awesome alarm clock was one of the entries in 102.1 Edge’s World’s Biggest contest back in 2007. The alarm clock doesn’t really use any sound or loud noises, but instead it makes use of a large mounted air cylinder at the head of the bed and a valve controlled by a computer to literally shake somebody out of bed. Here’s one more video of the bed at the 102.1 Edge studios. I wonder what the chance of whiplash is…

Amtrak arrests man because he was taking photos for Amtrak contest

amtrak-photography-contest-colbert-report

Amy Stein posted this funny video from The Colbert Report about the arrest of a man taking photographs in Penn Station on the Amtrak platform. It turns out that the man, Duane Kerzic, was arrested for trespassing after admitting to taking photos of “shiny” Amtrak trains for a photo competition that was being held by Amtrak.

I’ve always thought that a ban on photography in “high risk” places was a very ineffective way of combating terrorism and this is clear proof that it is.

The Comedy Central video is below.

The International Aquatic Plant Layout Contest 2008

fishtanks

I had no idea there was such a contest with so many contestants involved, but wow am I impressed with the way these fish tanks are set up! They’re incredibly detailed and they certainly look like little habitats. If I were a fish, I’d be happy to live in any of these tanks. [via]
