Nikon is doing something cool here with their brand-new Coolpix S1000pj camera. It’s a 12MP camera with a 5x zoom and a nifty little projector on the front that is capable of producing a 40-inch picture at a 6 feet range. I can only assume that this would greatly reduce battery life when used extensively, but I very much like the idea of an on-board projector especially when a group of people are all trying to clamor around a small camera to see the latest group shot.
My only concern is whether or not the projector justifies its $429 price point. Kind of expensive for a pocket camera. Anyway, it looks like we’ll only have to wait a month to start seeing this camera in people’s hands (available September).

Nikon is advertising its Coolpix S60 compact digital camera with these clever ads that show off (and exaggerate, I’m sure) just how great its facial recognition system is. With all of the hoopla in the UK about false advertising from Apple, I wonder if these ads would garner the same reaction. I mean, no way is Nikon’s face recognition software that good.
