Online gallery of world paper money

CP came across a wonderful website gem today called Will’s Online World Paper Money Gallery. The site basically collects images of different world paper currencies and lists them in alphabetical order for your viewing pleasure. I’ve always believed that some of the greatest designs around us are in our money, and this website makes that clear. It’s going to take me a couple of days at least to go through each country on the list.

Visual Economics posted this infographic that shows the value of U.S. currency currently in circulation. The graphic also shows the life expectancy of each denomination of bills and it turns out that the $100 bill lasts about 7 years before being replaced.

Also, if you look at the bottom of the chart (not shown above), you’ll see how ridiculous the amount of pennies in circulation is.

Alberto Antoniazzi wanted to create money so ridiculous looking that no country would dare consider it for printing. I think he hit the mark with these.

Vincent Kettering’s idea for redesigning United States currency centers around the idea that fame and fortune are an inherent part of our American culture. So he went and designed Dollar mock-ups that depict 3 famous celebrities who many idolized and who had the claim to fame and fortune during their lifetime.

Above, we see Michael Jackson on a proposed $3 bill. Click here to see Farrah Fawcett on the $2 note and Ed McMahon on the $1 bill.

Just a reminder that the Dollar Redesign Project ends this weekend on July 4th. So if you wanted to enter the contest to win a unique word-art T-shirt by Richard Smith, then you better submit your Dollar redesigns soon!

I actually enjoy this set of redesigned Dollar denominations. I don’t think the United States Mint would ever go with a design this radical, but it’s nice to look at anyway. Although, I’m not exactly sure how I feel about having the bills be predominantly vertical rather than horizontal. I think that’s more of a radical change than simply putting more colors on the Dollar.

What if all of the US Presidents that appear on US currency were bald? This LiveJournal post answers that.
