mays death

A report out today states that Billy Mays, long-time pitchman for OxiClean (among other products), died as an indirect result of cocaine use (coupled with a family linage of heart disease).

Though Mays was not intoxicated by any substances at the time of his death, it was concluded that he used cocaine in the days before but not immediately prior to his death.

Certainly a sad footnote to add to his life.

Infomercial king, Billy Mays, was found dead this morning after apparently passing away in his sleep. He was 50 years old.

The death was very sudden especially since Billy Mays seemed incredibly lively and healthy on Tuesday when he appeared on the Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien.

Billy Mays’ son (also named Billy Mays) tweeted about his dad’s death this morning after discovering that he would not wake up (see screengrab below).

Here’s one of the OxiClean infomercials that Billy Mays was famous for.

Neil Hefti, composer of original Batman TV series theme, has died

His Batman TV series theme song was the core of one of my most memorable jokes back when I was younger. I have forgotten how the joke goes now, but all I know is that there’s a little kid who sings it at the end of the joke. But I really forgot why he was singing the Batman theme.

Anyway, did you know the Batman theme became a Top 40 hit and won the 1966 Grammy Award for best instrumental theme? Wow.
