La Tour de 300 Metres

I came across the most wonderful architecture book I’ve ever seen at Left Bank Books. It’s called La Tour de 300 Metres and it’s a highly detailed book about the construction of the Eiffel Tower. TASCHEN is known for making large-format books and I believe this is one of their best. At $100+, it’s quite expensive, but every page of this book is worth the price. There are countless diagrams, architectural drawings, archival photos, and more all featured in high detail.

As far as I know, the book is pretty rare to come by so if you ever see it, please take some time to look through it (or purchase it). I didn’t see it at the TASCHEN store but if you are the least bit curious, you can pick up a copy at Amazon.com for $101 or get it on sale at this store for $79.

If you’re down for some really great illustrations and drawings, follow Jessie Douglas via her blog where she posts wonderful images of her works in progress. I really wish I had the ability to draw like this (or the ability to draw at all…).

Illustrated styrofoam coffee cups

Boey makes an art out of the traditional styrofoam coffee/drink cup by hand-drawing various illustrations onto the side of the cups. His drawings are absolutely amazing and he has amassed quite a number of them over time.

Each cup he draws is for sale and they come in a nice plastic case (see below) with a cork base and name tag. He’s also taking requests too which means that this would be a neat gift for just about anybody. Certainly something to put on the shelf and show off to others, no?

1 million giraffes

One Million Giraffes is on a mission to collect 1 million unique images of giraffes from people all over the world — just to prove a friend wrong. At the time of this post, they are less than 1% to their goal with 5687 giraffes collected, but you can help bring that number a bit higher by submitting your own drawing today.

Some of the drawings look like I drew them (meaning they’re terrible but very funny).

I could probably look at Andy Gilmore’s drawings and illustrations all day. [via]

He’s got some of the craziest eyes for color and patterns of anybody I’ve ever come across.

His Flickr account is a good place to get a look at most of his design work. I recommend starting with his grids and then moving on to his many designs.
