Learn 2 shoot great video on your Canon 7D with Philip Bloom

November 1, 2009 @ 2:00 am

Philip Bloom’s instructional video on how to best use the Canon 7D to shoot great looking video looks tempting. But at $135, I’m not sure I can justify that sort of spending on something that’s simply a digital download. I’ll wait for the actual DVD to be released (which should be real soon).

Bleep Bloop takes a look at an early DVD video game

I don’t recall ever seeing or owning any DVD video games, and after watching this video, I’m sort of glad. They look incredibly static and boring. But they certainly are funny so many years after DVD media launched.

A plane just hit the second tower

September 12, 2009 @ 2:59 am

Taken from the DVD September 11, 2001 – As It Happened – A Composite, this compilation video shows various news outlets reporting live on the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks when the 2nd plane hit the South Tower at 9:03AM.

The second plane (Flight 175) crashing into the second World Trade Center tower was the first and very clear indication that what was happening that Tuesday morning was more than just an accident. Included in this video are footage from ABC News, CBS News, WNYW-TV (Channel 5, New York), WNBC-TV (Channel 4, New York), NY1 (New York One, All News), Fox News Channel, WCBS-TV (Channel 2, New York), and WPIX-TV (Channel 11, New York).

When We Left Earth: The Nasa Missions

For a couple of weeks now, I’ve been slowly going through Discovery Channel’s TV series entitled When We Left Earth: The Nasa Missions, about the early beginnings of NASA and the race for space. I’m finally finished watching all of the episodes (I took my time) and my impression of it all is that it seems like a pretty thorough look at NASA’s struggle and triumphs on the way to the Moon and to the International Space Station. The amount of archive footage alone is more than enough reason to watch this documentary series and it’s pretty awesome to hear the whole story from the mouth of those who actually went up into space.

Nowadays, space travel seems like a pretty standard procedure, but after watching this series, I definitely have a greater appreciation of what it takes to get there and back. NASA really took great risks to further exploration and research, and their spirit of leaping blindly into space travel is worthy of such a beautifully produced documentary TV series.

If you don’t want to get it on Netflix, you can get When We Left Earth: The NASA Missions (4-Disc Set) at Amazon.com for just $37. A good price indeed!
