Hot off the press, here’s the new music video for the hit single “Empire State of Mind” off of Jay-Z’s album The Blueprint 3.
I can still remember the first time I heard this song after Jay’s album leaked, and how it made me feel so good to be walking around in the city. Still does, in fact. I don’t know if I’ll ever get sick of this song.
If you watched Sunday’s VMAs, you might have noticed that Lil Mama managed to get herself up on stage during Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’ performance of “Empire State of Mind”. I was so confused when I saw it because I couldn’t really tell right away if it was planned or if Lil Mama was hijacking the stage, but in this MTV interview, Lil Mama admits that the stunt was not planned and that Jay-Z “wasn’t feeling it”. Here is Jay-Z performing one of my favorite songs off of his latest album, The Blueprint 3, on September 12 at a benefit concert for 9/11 at Madison Square Garden.
If you haven’t heard already, Jay-Z’s latest album (to be released officially on 9/11) leaked yesterday and I’ve had the opportunity to listen to it earlier than expected. There’s one song so far on the album that really sticks out from the rest and I think it’s because it’s got a catchy hook and chorus. The song is “Empire State of Mind” and it’s more or less a song about how Jay-Z admires New York City and all that it has to offer. Think of it as a sort of NYC anthem that you can play in your headphones while you walk down any street in NYC and feel like you’re having the greatest day of your life.
There isn’t a music video for it, but I imagine a music video for this song showing Jay-Z walking in his old neighborhood with the sun shining brightly and him say hi and giving pounds to his friends along the way. That’s pretty much it. Maybe a car ride to another borough (or a Subway ride or something). But basically, just Jay-Z enjoying a stroll through NY.
