This is an image taken by Nguan on September 11, 2001 at Prince St and Broadway in New York City. For those who don’t know, this area is rarely this empty during the daytime and this image shows how the terrorist attacks transformed this busy city into a ghost town that day.
Thanks Bommy!

Divine Caroline links to this interest Google Maps image (above and embedded below) that shows California City, the 3rd largest city (in physical size) in the state of California.
California City was an idealized American dream city incorporated in 1965. It spans over 230 miles and was the future hope of some insane real estate developer that just never came to be. The city is so big in fact that it is technically the 11th largest in the entire US, but despite its size only about 6500 people live there.
If you look below, you can see white lines which show the roads and paths that were meant to carry people to and from their homes. It’s a haunting sight that you can experience virtually in Google Street View.

I just came back from Boston and I noticed that they still have a Circuit City box store with the Circuit City logo hanging on the exterior. I wonder how many of these still exist in the US (with empty parking lots in tow, of course). You can see a larger version of the image above at You’re My Favourite.

This is one of the craziest set of photos I’ve ever come across! Two lucky guys had the opportunity to ride their bikes in an empty hydroelectric power station before it was filled with water. According to one of the riders, the surface of the power station is very smooth and the entire power station is huge! This is no doubt one of the most awesome pseudo-velodromes ever. Epic!
You have to see the rest of the pictures — they’re really impressive! I so wish I could have been there to do the same.

Check out David Zaitz’s photos of rural Texas. His photos evoke a sort of place I would actually like to visit and possibly move to. It’s full of weird and abandoned objects from a past that seems long gone. Plus, it’s mostly sunny. :P

J Bennett Fitts is a photographer who has traveled the central portion of the United States and photographed some of the most interesting and desolate swimming pools I’ve ever seen. He puts them into a series called No Lifeguard On Duty. Somehow, he makes these places seem worth visiting. I love it!
Thanks for this great find, Booooooom!
