Wow, Lens posted this haunting picture of a deceased person on the ground after a fire at an Indian oil depot. The blast killed at least 6 people and injured more than 150. Frightening indeed.

Taken in 2000 by John McColgan and spread online via email chain (every time there is a major forest fire, it seems), this amazing once-in-a-lifetime photograph shows two elk fleeing a fire at Bitterroot National Forest in Montana. The photograph has been claimed by some to be a fake, but Snopes did some research and found it to be completely unaltered. The only thing untrue about this photograph is that sometimes people include it in random forest fire news stories that have nothing to do with the Bitterroot National Forest fire back in 2000.

This video makes absolutely no sense to me.

But I will say that it does goes well with the taxi cab that caught fire earlier today in Manhattan. Mmmm, yes it does.

CAB FIRE, 7TH AVENUE AND 53RD STREET. from Brian Durniak on Vimeo.

I’m always down for a good taxi cab fire, and this one certainly fits the mold. This cab exploded today at 53rd Street and 7th Avenue. I couldn’t be there in person to see it, but this video does a good job of showing the remnants of this car.

Time Lapse Test: Station Fire from Eric Spiegelman on Vimeo.

Eric Spiegelman created these two time-lapse videos showing a day and night during the Station Fire in Los Angeles County. I have friends in the area and reading their tweets is both exciting and scary. I hope you all on the West Coast remain safe!

Burning Car by Superflex

I watched Burning Car for the first time today and was impressed by how such a simple video can capture my attention for such an extended period of time. The 10-minute film is a film by Superflex produced in 2008 by Propeller Group.

In the 10-minute video, the old Mercedes-Benz can be seen engulfed in flames with its paint bubbling and falling off. The video is beautiful and I could easily see this on some big screen somewhere playing in an infinite loop. Superflex actually had the entire video in HD on a torrent, but I just tried and it looks like the torrent is pretty much dead. It’s a shame because I would love to download this film in HD. Anybody have a direct link?

You can watch the entire film below.
