If you heard lots of thunder-like sounds in the NYC area tonight (and even Upstate NY too), this is why.
New York was celebrating the quadricentennial of Henry Hudson discovering New York City. Yep, about 400 years ago, Henry Hudson sailed along parts of what is now the Hudson River and helped support the first settlers in the area.
UPDATE: Ok, I stand corrected. The fireworks I heard last night were for the Hoboken Italian Festival. However, the video above is for the quadricentennial fireworks.
I’m convinced that sparklers and fireworks are the key to having an awesome time. This video was made by Michelle Connolly and shot with a Nikon D90 with a 50mm lens.
Basically, all you have to do to get your own desktop fireworks going is print out the PDF of the black and white image (found here) and then direct yourself to the fireworks page and allow the website to access your webcam.
Once allowed, the webcam will “see” the PDF print out on your desk and whenever you click your mouse over the webcam image you will see fireworks pop up!
Wow, this jellyfish really looks like an alien spaceship as it floats and sparkles in the pitch black sea. I wonder what a whole family (whatever the correct term is) of these jellyfish would look like.
Time passes so quickly. It’s amazing for me to think that just a year ago, I was in Sydney celebrating New Year’s under these same fireworks coming from the Sydney Harbor Bridge.
