This month’s WIRED features a story on Craigslist and its continuous rejection of all things modern on the web. It’s actually a very interesting and enlightening article on how Craigslist is a mess, but a mess that people can manage. It’s simple and without any additional features that some might find useless and that’s partially why it is such a great success.
Anyway, reading that article made me think of how I would personally love to have a slightly better looking Craigslist experience as I do browse the website extensively from time to time. It turns out that I can if I just install this Greasemonkey userscript called Craigslist Redesignged that takes design cues from the redesign done by thebignoob.
Compare the original Craigslist below with the redesigned one above.

I know that many of you go to YouTube on a daily basis, and if you actually make use of the ’subscribe’ button on the site, you’ll know that YouTube has a really stupid way of displaying the videos in the Subscriptions section (link only works if you’re logged in to YouTube).
The problem, for those who don’t know, is that YouTube makes every single link to the videos a special javascript link which ultimately prevents you from opening multiple videos at once in browser tabs. If you try to open a video in a new tab from the subscriptions area, you’re simply brought to the subscriptions page yet again in the new tab.
To fix this really stupid problem, just install this Greasemonkey script and start opening those links in new tabs. Of course, to use that script, you have to have the Greasemonkey add-on for Firefox installed first.

If you’re a power user of Google Reader — meaning, you can navigate your way around all your feeds using only keyboard shortcuts — then you might find Helvetireader very pleasing to look at and easy to use.
Helvetireader is a minimal interface theme for Google Reader that is easy to implement if you’ve got Greasemonkey on your browser. I’m going to go ahead and assume that most of my readers use Firefox, so all you need is the Greasemonkey extension installed and then you just install the Greasemonkey userscript on the Helvetireader page and you’re all set!
If you want, you can also install the Show Feed Favicons script too and get RSS feed icons in your Google Reader.
Helvetireader isn’t perfect — there’s some glitches with the star system — but I guess I could deal with it for a while. We’ll see how long this lasts before I disable the script. Haha.
