Wow, this is some of the most fantastic artwork I’ve seen in a while. On the surface, it doesn’t look like Ross Racine does anything different than what a satellite can do from outer space, but upon closer inspection, you’ll see that Ross’s work is actually hand-drawn computer fabrications of suburban life. And to that end, they’re utterly amazing.
The level of detail and realism are astounding and each image certainly makes me think twice about gated communities and suburban sprawl. From a purely aesthetic viewpoint, these communities look awesome from this aerial view. But once I start imagining what it might be like to live in a place like this, I start to see how it can be confusing, repetitive, and downright exhausting.
Ross has drawn quite a bit of these fake communities and there’s no way I’m about to save them all and present them here, so head on over to his website to see it at full size.
