Today’s Astronomy Picture of the Day is a wonderful photo of a blue Sun (our Sun). The photo is converted blue to highlight the rapidly moving gases that end up looking like bristles on a carpet.
The description on the photo is particularly interesting, mainly this part:
Our Sun glows because it is hot, but it is not on fire. Fire is the rapid acquisition of oxygen, and there is very little oxygen on the Sun. The energy source of our Sun is the nuclear fusion of hydrogen into helium deep within its core. No sunspots or large active regions were visible on the Sun this day, although some solar prominences are visible around the edges.
I have always thought of the Sun as an object that was on fire, but now it actually makes sense to read that the sun is almost never on fire. It’s just very hot.

For the latter half of this week, I’ve been making my own coffee and bringing it to work in the Oxo Good Grips LiquiSeal Travel Mug
, a wonderful and affordable thermos that has a neat quick-release button at the top to prevent your beverage from spilling. The button allows you to seal the contents of the thermos quickly without having to worry about whether or not your lid is screwed on tightly (hopefully it is though). Once the button is pushed, you can literally tip the Oxo mug over and nothing will drip.
On top of that nice little feature is the fact that it works well as a thermos. It kept my coffee hot for several hours. I’ve read reviews saying that this thermos was hard to clean, but if you follow the instructions that come with it, you’ll find that cleaning this and maintaining it is as simple as ever (so simple that I don’t know how somebody can even get it wrong). The Oxo travel mug is hassle-free and only $20 on Amazon.com and it comes in a variety of colors. Buy one and pretty soon you’ll be saving a good amount on coffee or tea.

I went to the Donnis x 10.Deep mixtape release party last night in DUMBO. It was packed and it was HOT. It was probably the hottest party I’ve ever been to and the fans on the ceiling weren’t quite helping to cool anybody down. Regardless of the heat, I stayed and ended up seeing Donnis come on stage and perform a couple of his songs which are featured on his 10.Deep mixtape.

An email blast this morning comes from Timbuk2 announcing their brand-new Dolores Cooler messenger bag. It’s a bit of a hybrid messenger bag monster complete with ballistic nylon exterior, waterproof TPU inner lining, a main pocket zipper closing, and even a handy bottle opener! The lining on the inside is fully insulated and can hold up to 12 cans of beer. Esquire has released an exclusive video featuring Megan Fox waking up, suntanning, BBQ-ing, eating chicken, and getting ready to go out for the night. It is just about the best video I’ve seen all week.

Also, I can’t wait for this June 2009 issue of Esquire to come out on May 10th. HOT.
