It turns out that there are a few of these in the NYC area.
I remember hearing stories of people on Airbnb opening up their homes for free to those needing shelter after Hurricane Sandy. Airbnb recognizes some of those kind individuals in this video here.
I don’t know why I find this interesting, but I do. Here’s just some b-roll footage of South Ferry station on the 1 line re-opening after undergoing renovations following Hurricane Sandy. Nothing new or spectacular to report. Just a video of the station with NOBODY THERE.
Look at this video of Foursquare checkins during Hurricane Sandy. Watch as nearly the entire portion of Lower Manhattan goes without a single Foursquare checkin due to power being unavailable (and probably people realizing they don’t need to waste their cell batteries on useless checkins).
