PDN has posted some of the Norman Rockwell’s photos that inspired some of his photorealistic paintings during his career. I was never into Rockwell that much, but I always liked the feeling that I got when I looked at his paintings. It’s kinda funny that I was exposed to Rockwell’s artwork at the optometrist when I was younger and generally associated his work with visiting the eye doctor. Anyway, I had no idea his paintings were based on actual photographs that he took and composed. It all makes sense now, and just so it’s clear…I still like his paintings more.
If you’re interested in seeing more, there’s a new book out called Norman Rockwell: Behind the Camera
that compiles a lot of the photo and painting pairings.

If you’ve been watching NBC lately, you would have noticed the brand new network identity created by Capacity with the tagline “more colorful”. I’m a huge fan of the new look and I think Capacity did a fantastic job actually making NBC more colorful without venturing too far away from its identity.
In case you haven’t seen it yet, check out the NBC show montages here and then read up on how Capacity came up with the new look (they show off some concept work too which never made it in the end).

I always tend to forget that the Library of Congress photo archives are a great source of inspiration. Here’s the Majestic Theater located in San Antonio, TX.
