The Apple Store is carrying a limited edition stainless-steel iPod shuffle for $99. Looks pretty nice. I want one just to keep.

Introducing the iMac shuffle

Taking cues from the incredible success of the most recent iPod shuffle, Apple announced today the introduction of their newest line of Mac computer, the iMac shuffle. Encased in the same familiar aluminum body as the iMac, the iMac shuffle does away with the screen and all ports to leave you with the simplest computer ever. And just like the iPod shuffle, the iMac shuffle comes with Apple’s VoiceOver technology, allowing you to hear every command that the computer is doing so you’ll never have to use a mouse or keyboard ever again.

In a sense, this is the ultimate computer. Apple really has created a unique all-in-one experience with the latest iMac and I can’t wait to get my hands on it to test it out. I hear the Power button on this thing is amazing!

VoiceOver is stupid

As you might have heard, Apple released a new iPod shuffle today and lots of people are mad about the proprietary headphones that are needed to actually use the device.

But what people really should be mad at is the terrible VoiceOver technology, which is nothing more than text-to-speech. And if you’ve ever used any form of text-to-speech, you know that it’s one of those computer technologies that really haven’t been perfected (but it’s included in software anyway because of various laws or because somebody somewhere thinks it’s “close” to a human’s voice).

I, for one, think it sounds ridiculous. Seriously, check out the list of voices Apple has on its website and then tell me you aren’t frustrated by it after just a few seconds of listening.

And also, for a music player that claims to be the simplest on the market, it’s controls are anything but simple (see full PDF here).
