I’m looking to upgrade my computer to 4GB of RAM, but I wasn’t sure which configuration I needed for my specific model of MacBook Pro, so I went to the Apple website to get that checked. After I checked, Apple suggested that I buy 4GB of RAM from their website which costs $300. Split that into 2 RAM modules and the price for each becomes $150. I actually didn’t know how much RAM should cost so I figured that this was just normal price.
Thank goodness I checked, because apparently that’s about an 86% markup compared to the same kind of RAM from other companies like iRam which sells the same modules for about $21 each. Buying two of those would still only cost me about $42, an amount that’s significantly less than even ONE of Apple’s RAM upgrades.
What’s the deal here? Am I comparing two different items, or is Apple really milking their customers dry?
