Christmas comes early for me this year! Ok, actually, it comes about the same time every year — right before and during the annual PMA convention in Las Vegas.

Canon just released photos and specs for the new PowerShot SD1100 IS, the next camera in Canon’s fantastic line of digital ELPHs.

The new PowerShot SD1100 (also called the IXUS 80 IS) will come in five colors: silver, pink, blue, brown, and gold (show above). The small and stylish camera sports Canon’s DIGIC III camera chip capable of taking photos at 8MP. On top of that, the camera also has image stabilization built-in, face recognition technology, and a 2.5″ PureColor LCD on the back for viewing your images.

Those who know me well know that I’ve recommended the PowerShot SD1000 quite a lot when it reigned in Canon’s ELPH line of cameras. This PowerShot SD1100 is basically the new and improved version of that camera. I’ll most likely be getting one for myself when it arrives on Australian shores, and there’s little doubt that I’ll probably be recommending this camera to all my friends as well.

Check out the full press release and some more specs at Digital Photography Review. Or download the hi-res photos at the Canon website.

I’ve included photos of the 4 colors and their odd names inside.
