The National Library of Australia has an online archive of searchable imagery from many libraries and collections throughout Australia. The list of contributors at Picture Australia is long which makes the site an invaluable resource for gathering images of Australia from its earliest days until today!

The image aboveis of the Royal Melbourne Mint which still sits on La Trobe Street and William Street in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD. I used to pass by this building all the time going to work and it’s so neat that I can now see a picture of the historic place without any buildings, roads, cars, or people around. Amazing!
