Afrikan Boy showed off the first photo of M.I.A.’s newborn baby who was born on Wednesday, February 11, 2009.
As many of you know, M.I.A. recently performed on her scheduled due date while pregnant at the Grammy Awards. Her next scheduled performance is supposed to be on February 22, 2009 at the Oscars (81st Academy Awards) and word is that the organizers are so keen on having her perform “O Saya” (from Slumdog Millionaire) that they are even willing to beam her in from her bed via satellite or have her perform as a hologram. Seriously.

I’ve been following the development of the mega-collaboration between DJ’s Squeak E. Clean and DJ Zegon ever since it was made known that they were coming together with artists from around the world to form N.A.S.A.
It’s amazing that the two managed to get so many people on board this musical project. There are names like Kanye West, M.I.A., Santogold, The Cool Kids, DJ AM, Ghostface Killah, Tom Waits and many more on one 17-song disc. Of course, with such high-calibre names on queue, N.A.S.A. is setting some very high expectations to be met and they almost get it with the exception of a few tracks. Otherwise, I think the album is quite fun to listen to simply because you get to hear so many styles of lyrical flow in one sitting. Some of my favorite tracks areĀ ”Gift”, “Samba Soul”, “The Mayor”, and “N.A.S.A. Music”.
Anyway, the album drops February 17, 2009, but you can check it out now if you want.
By the way , if you’re wondering about the image above, it’s an image of all 5 official album covers for the album, each designed by a different artist.

One of the prettiest women in music sat down with a camera to talk about the widespread success of her song, “Paper Planes”. M.I.A. may look a bit heavier here than usual, but that’s because she’s pregnant and expecting her first child with Ben Brewer.
If for some reason you have no idea what “Paper Planes” is, then I recommend you listen to the remix album of “Paper Planes” and get with it!

I’ve been working on a 2008 culminating music review post and in the process I’ve already chosen the title for “song of the year”. That song, in my opinion, is M.I.A.’s “Paper Planes”. I’ve heard it everywhere this year, both in Australia and in the US. It’s a global musical phenomenon that has everybody putting their hands up in the air at the sound of those first few notes of the song.
To celebrate the awesomeness of this song here’s the album from M.I.A. called Paper Planes: Homeland Security Remixes that consists of 5 different remixes of the popular single. Get it here.
Here’s the original music video for the song if you haven’t heard it yet.
