Blowing into a cow’s butt to help it lactate

May 8, 2009 @ 2:57 pm

In this National Geographic segment, the narrator explains how sometimes young kids need to help cows lactate by blowing into their butts. The act is a form of stimulation for the cow and if done correctly will allow the cow to secrete milk! [via]

I believe that sound you hear is the cow farting back the air that the kid is blowing into its anus. I cannot begin to imagine how these kids must feel waking up every morning for this job.

Joshua Harris designed this innovative new coffee lid to free up your hands when grabbing a cup of coffee. The new lid features a place to hold milk/cream and sugar without having to worry about it falling as you’re walking.

Seems simple enough, but no coffee lid I’ve ever come across has ever featured these must-have slots.

Boxed Water

A new company called Boxed Water is selling the idea of a greener packaged water that does away with traditional plastic bottles. Boxed Water uses 90% recycled material in their packaging and thus claims that their carbon footprint is much less when compared to other bottled water companies.

In addition to looking quite fabulous on store shelves, Boxed Water says that they are reducing their damage on the environment by using the box concept because it takes up less room than bottles and weighs less than bottles too.

The flat, unfilled boxes we can fit on 2 pallets, or roughly 5% of a truckload, would require about 5 truckloads for empty plastic or glass bottles. Our cartons can also be broken down to their original flat state, are recyclable in most areas, and will be everywhere shortly.

For a brand-new venture, the company is being quite ambitious in their efforts. They intend to donate about 20% of their overall profits — 10% to water-relief foundations and 10% to reforestation projects.

Their packaging reminds me of Home Brand, another brand that has effectively used simple packaging to appeal to the consumer.
