Will 3rd-parties make a Magic Mouse too?

October 21, 2009 @ 12:33 am

What is the likelihood that 3rd-party hardware manufacturers will make a mouse like the Magic Mouse with multi-touch technology? I’m only asking because I can’t see myself spending $70 for a mouse but I would LOVE a mouse with multi-touch features like this. Apple mice are notoriously bad and I have a feeling that this mouse, while nice looking and all, is actually a pain in the butt to use for long periods at a time (it just doesn’t look comfortable, but what do I know…).

Also, can we all agree that Magic Mouse is a stupid name?

WarCraft III on multi-touch screen

December 10, 2008 @ 10:12 am

The folks over at PQ Labs have developed a piece of touch-screen technology similar to Microsoft’s Surface that they are calling iTable (original name, that’s for sure…). With it, the team have come up with an awesome way to dominate WarCraft III gameplay using the touch-screen technology as you can see in the video above. [via]

The ability to use two-hand gestures on something like this can go a long way to making games a lot more fun to play. I’m already thinking about how much faster I can do things if I didn’t have to only use one mouse cursor to point at everything. One hand can be doing one thing while the other hand motions characters or objects in a game to do another.

At the moment, the WarCraft III example above is only an example, but man, I’d be pretty excited to see more games officially make multi-touch contraptions like this a part of regular gameplay. I just wish I already had a multi-touch screen as big as that one.

Multi-touch support is coming to Photoshop CS4!

September 25, 2008 @ 3:43 pm

According to WIRED, the new version of Photoshop which was announced on Tuesday, will feature one awesome goodie for Mac users with recent hardware — multi-touch actions!

Yep! If you’ve got a MacBook Pro or MacBook Air that has a multi-touch trackpad, you’ll enjoy the added feature of multi-touch in Photoshop that allows you to pinch, zoom, twist, and “throw” images all over the Photoshop canvas. This sounds like a gimmick, but believe me, the multi-touch trackpad is one of my favorite features on my MacBook Pro because it allows me to quickly do common tasks without making me go through menus, and knowing that Photoshop will come with this support is definitely going to make me real happy.

I’m already imagining the efficiency and speed at which this will allow me to work. Ahh, yes, it’s going to be good!
