Wow, Lens posted this haunting picture of a deceased person on the ground after a fire at an Indian oil depot. The blast killed at least 6 people and injured more than 150. Frightening indeed.
Edward Burtynsky: Oil
October 21, 2009 @ 11:15 pm

PDN has a great look at Edward Burtynsky’s photographs of oil being harvested from the earth. If you haven’t heard, Burtynsky just recently released a new book entitled Oil that showcases over 12 years of photographic work in this area. His photos are now being exhibited at 3 simultaneous galleries: Hasted Hunt Kraeutler in NYC, Nicholas Metivier Gallery in Toronto, and The Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
If you’ve never been introduced to Burtynsky’s large-format works of art, then this is a subject matter to start your explorations in.
Dawn soap saves wildlife
July 9, 2009 @ 10:22 pm
I think I’ll just go ahead and eradicate all other soap/detergent brands from my head except for Dawn because this is just about the best thing I’ve seen all day. I had no idea Dawn could do such wonderful work!
Thanks Clarence!
Paintings by Roberto Bernardi
March 9, 2009 @ 2:43 pm

This is going to blow your mind. Believe it or not, the image above is not a photograph. It’s an oil on canvas painting made by Roberto Bernardi.
Roberto Bernardi specializes in painting hyper-realistic scenes using nothing but oil-based paints. Even after knowing this, I still cannot believe that these are not straight photogaphs. The reflections, the lighting and the overall colors are so exact in comparison to a photograph or what you may see in real-life that it’s hard to distinguish between the two.
Thanks Heather!
Verte Non-Dripping: an oil bottle with a smart spout
February 11, 2009 @ 9:42 am

The Verte Non-Dripping oil bottle from noro is absolute genius! It uses a two-lip spout to dispense your oil and prevent it from leaking down the sides of the bottle and onto your countertop or table. As you can see from the illustration above, the oil comes out from the inner lip when you pour and back into the outer lip as you stand the bottle back upright. The oil not being used drips back into the bottle for use later. It’s not only a smart design, it’s economical too as it saves crucial amounts of otherwise wasted oil over time.
Our household could use a bottle or a two-lip spout like this. Our stove area gets messy and slick because of all of the oil that drips from our olive oil bottle that we keep nearby. The Verte Non-Dripping bottle would surely save us from such a predicament. [via]
Happy Thanksgiving!
November 27, 2008 @ 3:23 am
Normally on Thanksgiving, I try and make a list of things that I’m thankful for, but this year, I’m just going to link to a safety news report on YouTube that talks about the dangers of turkey deep-fryers.
If you’re cooking your Thanksgiving turkey this year in a deep-fryer, please make sure you are doing it with all of the necessary precautions (fire extinguisher, properly thawed turkey, outdoors and well-ventilated, etc.).
Ok, eat up and enjoy the long weekend!
