Polaroid Sun 600 LMS

September 29, 2009 @ 1:21 am

A Polaroid Sun 600 LMS camera was gifted to me today. I don’t have any film for it and prices are eye-gouging to say the least, so for now, I’ll just keep it around to stare at (because it looks nice).

1965 Dodge Deora Concept car

September 27, 2009 @ 3:21 am

A 1965 Dodge Deora Concept vehicle went up for auction yesterday at RM Auctions for an estimated price of $350,000-$550,000 USD. The car was first shown at the 1967 Detroit Autorama and has since gained a small but steady following. The RM Auctions website has a complete history of the car. It’s a pretty length read, but fascinating to know how this car came to be in real life.

Thanks Autoblog for the photos (check them out below)!

I’m in love with this photo of the Chicago and Northwestern rail locomotive shop taken by Jack Delano. Look at the sparks coming from the guy working near the bottom left of the image. Nice! :)

Historic Dreamland Amusement Park bell raised from the ocean floor

September 5, 2009 @ 1:54 am

This past Thursday, a commercial diver named Gene Ritter brought a nearly 100-year-old brass bell weighing about 500 pounds to the surface at Coney Island. The bell helped ring in the arrival and departure of visitors to Dreamland during the park’s run and in 1911 a devastating fire destroyed the park and sent the entire iron pier (and the bell) to the ocean floor.

ABC News has video of the bell being raised from the ocean floor.

And for this weekend only, the bell will be on display at the Coney Island History Project Center near the Cyclone rollercoaster. The admission is free so there really isn’t a good reason to go if you’re not doing anything else.
