A report out today states that Billy Mays, long-time pitchman for OxiClean (among other products), died as an indirect result of cocaine use (coupled with a family linage of heart disease).

Though Mays was not intoxicated by any substances at the time of his death, it was concluded that he used cocaine in the days before but not immediately prior to his death.

Certainly a sad footnote to add to his life.

At the funeral service for Billy Mays on Friday, July 3, 2009 in Pittsburgh, PA, the pallbearers all donned the iconic blue shirt uniform that Billy Mays made famous through his OxiClean infomercials. The Herald Dispatch has a couple of more photos from the funeral.

Infomercial king, Billy Mays, was found dead this morning after apparently passing away in his sleep. He was 50 years old.

The death was very sudden especially since Billy Mays seemed incredibly lively and healthy on Tuesday when he appeared on the Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien.

Billy Mays’ son (also named Billy Mays) tweeted about his dad’s death this morning after discovering that he would not wake up (see screengrab below).
